In today’s society, a gluten-free diet has become an increasingly popular trend. But is that all it is; a trend? Well, this is still the opinion of many people until they have a gluten free experience of their own. There are several health benefits that you could experience by switching over to a diet that’s free of gluten.
Gluten is essentially a protein, which is present in a lot of foods. It’s what gives certain foods their texture, such as the chewiness to bread. Over the years wheat has been hybridized to increase production and in the process, the gluten has become harder to digest. There is also some controversy around the use of certain pesticides used in the fields. So how is excluding this from your diet beneficial?
Benefits of Eating Gluten Free
As you probably already know, processed foods, even though they appear to be quick and easy are not ideal for your health, and they tend to include a substantial amount of gluten, sugars, artificial flavoring, and chemicals – avoiding these is going to help you avoid a lot of health problems. And ultimately the key to being wealthy is having your health. I notice that when I feel my best, I a can conquer any challenge.
In recent years, there has been an increase in digestive symptoms that have caused a lot of discomfort in people who are becoming more and more intolerant to gluten and as a result, they experience a variety of adverse reactions.
If you’ve felt any of the following symptoms, you’re likely intolerant to gluten:
- Brain Fog or lack of focus
- Aches and joint pains.
- Unexplained weight gain.
- Feeling lethargic or fatigue
- Constant carb cravings.
- Hormones imbalance
- Skin problems
- Bloating
- Migraine headaches
I would like to challenge you to give up wheat products for 30-days. This change is something that can be quite easy if we have the mindset to accomplish the challenge. If I said give up broccoli for 30 days what is your reaction? Agonizing discomfort? Most likely that is not the case. However, when clients are asked to ignore wheat for 30 days, their first reaction is one of loss. This reaction is usually a reliable indicator that there is a problem with wheat in the chemistry of the body. It can feel like an addiction to this food substance.
This addictive ingredient does trigger a long list of adverse reactions in the body. There are plenty of books on the market that go into great depth on the science behind this wheat issue. It can make for some interesting reading, but in the end, it does come down to how you look and feel after being wheat free for 30 days.
For starters, first, you need to decide when you're going to start. Next, make sure you have plenty of wheat-free options as an alternative. There are many new items in the store to help with this. Gluten-free products are in quite a demand in our stores, and I believe we will begin to see the quality of our food change as our spending dollars follow products that are whole verse those with cheap, processed, empty calorie foods.
I recommend starting the day with a whole food, dairy free, whey free, and gluten free smoothie. There are lots of protein shake mixes to choose from. However, I recommend the " Complete" whole food smoothie base mix by Juice Plus. This one is Non- GMO, whole food, dairy free and gluten free. It's around $2 a shake, so it is very affordable, and it tastes great.
For lunch and dinner focus on whole foods, such as fresh vegetables, salads, organic meats, and healthy starches. There is also many good quality gluten free bread products that can help replace wheat bread for sandwiches or toasts.
For creative ideas, I use Pinterest as a resource to stimulate food ideas. I make salads ahead of time and store them in a jar; I stock the freezer with frozen fruits for my smoothies and make sure I have a few healthy snacks to grab throughout the day.
Our Final Verdict
Converting to a gluten-free diet is highly beneficial. A lot of the discomforts and cravings that you’re feeling may be due to gluten, and you might not even know it! You’ll be losing weight and feeling more energetic than ever! Try going gluten-free for 30 days and you’ll notice that you’re relieved from a lot of these issues.
Let us know how it goes, and we’d love to hear about your experiences. I will continue to post gluten free options, tips and tricks.
Have a wonderful day and be happy,
Sharon Hyde
